I did not write the following, but I agree with the words and the sentiment.   The original author said that if one agrees with the following they can claim the words as their own – and I do and I do. –

Despite all of my faults which make me a far less than perfect person and sometimes a hypocrite, there is one thing I know. My faults could serve to put my hypocrisy on display and discredit me in other areas of my life, but there is one certain truth which I understand more thoroughly than any other—killing innocent people is wrong. This is my absolute truth and I think it should be your absolute truth as well. If it’s not your absolute truth, then stop reading. It is not prudent for me to write to you. If you can’t agree with me upon this basic tenet which is vital to our coexistence, then I don’t want you in my life.

Even worse, though, than plainly killing innocent people is doing such in my name with my money—or rather using the power over me as collateral to fund the numerous atrocities. This is contemptible. I can no longer sit idly by without telling people how I feel. I think it is eating away at me and I think I would prefer that people hate me rather than continue to bottle up what I believe is the truth.

To me the complete realization of this certain truth comes with ease, and with the appropriate perspective it should come easy for you as well. It’s simple: imagine the person you care for most—don’t just passively contemplate their role in your life—sincerely consider their existence and what that person means to you. Remember the last time they said “I love you” or gave you a warm embrace. Now imagine a bomb has befallen them in your home and they were incinerated in the room adjacent to your own. Imagine that this explosive was imposed upon your loved one by a foreign army who is occupying what you believe to be your space. If you refuse to imagine yourself in a situation presently faced by thousands of your fellow man then, again, stop reading–you are an enabler. Now, continue to consider that the person you care about most was just accidentally turned into a spew of red. Would such an event inspire you to feel absolute contempt for such a destructive force or would you find solace in the promises of your destructors? If you wouldn’t feel complete disdain for a power which has unceremoniously destroyed everything you know in life then, again, stop reading—we will be unable to communicate in any meaningful way. Not about this nor anything else.

Our occupancy of foreign lands and our obliteration of millions of innocent people (this is not an exaggeration) remains the most pressing issue of our time—for our country, and for our species. If you care about innocent people then you should agree that this is a matter of paramount import. It should, in my opinion, be discussed above all else until it stops. Cease trying to justify what those in power are doing in your name and in my name. I don’t care if only a small fraction of a penny of my earnings goes to fund the killing of innocent people—it is so wrong—so absolutely contemptible and heinous that it makes me sick that I’m a part of it. I don’t see how any human who claims to care about his fellow people can feel any other way. If you can’t realize that you are literally funding the murder of massive amounts of humans with your tax dollars and the promised productivity of you and your children, then we can’t understand each other on even the most basic level.

I am trying to inspire you towards reason and passion. Please care about your fellow human kind. I am begging you to start believing—to begin understanding that the wars being fought in our names are wrong. I’ve decided that I can no longer be silent. This is an appropriate topic in every facet of my life. There is a constant weight of extreme guilt on my shoulders for being so idle when there are innocent people killed in the name of my freedom, using my money. What kind of convoluted world do you live in if you can’t understand that when innocent people are murdered it does nothing to help their freedom nor ours? It does quite the opposite. The people we are killing have as many loved ones as you and me. Don’t forget the way you feel about those who you love. Your feelings have power, no matter how seemingly inert–so please believe in what is just.

Violence is never the answer—in the end it will be held up as a reason to do harm in turn.
