Professor Peake spent more than four decades on Wall Street and as an international consultant in financial market structure. In January 1993, Professor Peake came to the University of Northern Colorado’s business college as its first Monfort Executive Professor. After completion of his 2 ½ year term, he was asked to remain in an endowed chair as Monfort Distinguished Professor of Finance. He retired after his 14th year at UNC’s Monfort College of Business. He was honored by being named Professor Emeritus.
Professor Peake was a senior partner and officer in a large New York Stock Exchange firm, and served a three-year term on the board of governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers, where he was elected Vice-Chairman. He is internationally recognized as an expert in market microstructure—the way financial markets work—and was among the first to specify a detailed method of using computers in the electronic trading of stocks and derivatives. He is called by many “the Father of Decimalization,” the recently mandated practice of trading in cents rather than in fractions, such as eighths.
